DETAILS

[De]puty Bang and I were advised via telephone of a home death on O’Donovan Road east of
[Cr]eston. We were advised by Deputy Don Hugh that Reis Chapel was enroute to that location
[to] make the removal of the body, and Detective Coroner Don Hines requested that we go to
[th]e area and check for anything out of the ordinary.

[Th]e scene is located on O’Donovan Road approximately five miles east of Creston. The
[dr]iveway leading to the scene is marked by a sign stating, “Emanuel Camp”. Upon turning
[ri]ght at that sign, which is south, you travel approximately one half mile on a dirt road
[be]fore coming to a white fence. This white fence 1s around the perimeter of a 160 acre
[ra]nch. There 1s a large man made pond approximately three acres in size, also a horse
[ra]ce track with an observation tower in the center of the track. Located on the premises
[i]s a large white house that sets on a knoll top above the race track and pond. There are
[st]ables located southwest of the pond where recreational vehicles are parked behind the
[st]ables.

[D]eputy Bang and I arrived at the Hubbard Ranch at approximately 0800 hours. We were given
[di]rections to meet the reporting parties at the stables. At that time I contacted Earle
[Co]oley, who identified himself as Layfayette Ronald Hubbard’s attorney. Mr. Cooley then
[in]troduced me to Dr. Gene Denk and identified him as Mr. Hubbard’s private physician. Dr.
[De]nk then advised me that Mr, Hubbard had died on 1-24-86 at approximately 2000 hours the
[da]y before. I then asked Dr. Denk and Mr. Cooley why the delay in contacting the
[Sh]eriff’s Department. They advised that they wanted to get the will together and expedite
[th]e procedures for cremation of Mr. Hubbard’s remains.

[De]puty Bang and I then requested to observe the body. We were taken to a motorhome behind
[th]e stables in which the body was located. The license number on the motorhome, 1DSP131.
[We] entered the motorhome, which was in immaculate condition and observed the deceased
[l]ying in a bed in the back of the motorhome. The air conditioner was running in the
[mo]torhome. We then went to the back of the motorhome where the deceased way laying and
[ma]de a visual observation of him. We did not detect any evidence of foul play. Dr. Denk
[ad]vised us that Mr. Hubbard had a stroke approximately one week prior to his death, and
[th]at the cause of death was from the stroke.

[I] received a copy of the will of Mr. Hubbard from Mr. Cooley. As I checked over the will,
[I] noted that it was dated on 1-23-86 and signed by Mr. Hubbard.

[Af]ter taking possession of the will, I requested to use the telephone. At that time, we
[we]nt to the main house where I used the phone to contact Detective Coroner Hines. I
[ad]vised him that I had a copy of the will and that it was dated 1-23-86. He advised that
[he] would like to take possession of the copy as soon as possible. Deputy Bang and I then
[sh]eared from the call as Reis Chapel arrived to take possession of the body.
